Sea and culture : this is the only combination that best describes the characteristics of Forte dei Marmi, has always been one of the most famous tourist centers of the Tuscan coast .
A city rich in history , Forte dei Marmi began to expand steadily from the sixteenth century, with the clean-up operation that was prolonged throughout the seventeenth century. After the construction of the fort in 1788 , hence the name , in the nineteenth century the town of Versilia started to become that beautiful sea resort we all know.
In addition to the beauty of its beaches and its historic center , Forte dei Marmi is also famous for its festivals ( Sant’Ermete and San Francisco) and for its markets ( Antiques , Piazza Marconi, Victoria Apuan ) .
It is not only the sea , however, to be a leader in Forte dei Marmi. The hinterland is , in fact, rich in history and culture, ancient traditions that unfold through routes that lead to discovering the Apuan Alps and throughout the Province of Lucca. And for those who love life , the town center is full of shops and fashion boutiques that attract tourists like the famous art cities : Florence, Pisa, Siena and Arezzo.
